A trust has sent three year groups home across two schools following confirmed cases of Covid-19.

Pupils from Brompton Academy, Gillingham, and Chatham Girls' Grammar School will have to self isolate for 14 days following the two positive tests.

The University of Kent Academies' Trust (UKAT) made the decision yesterday regarding all Year 11 students at Brompton and Years 12 and 13 at both schools' sixth forms.

In a letter addressed to parents, Brompton head teacher Jennifer Robertson said: "These cases were unrelated and have no direct connection to the school environment.

"Students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 will continue to attend school as normal during this time.

"The trust has implemented clear and comprehensive protocols to keep the students and staff safe.

"As each year group is in a designated 'bubble' where they do not mix with other years, they have not been in direct contact with any other year group.

"Students with siblings in Years 11, 12 or 13 should still attend school unless they exhibit symptoms.

"I would like to stress this action is in direct response to advice and guidance from the Department for Education."
