Age proved no barrier for a group of older residents as they put their moves to the test in a bid to trend on TikTok.

Care staff found new ways to keep tenants engaged this week at Montgomery Court in Wainscott, Strood.

The lockdown had meant activities for the sheltered housing residents who are all over 55 were cancelled and they were restricted to their flats.

But as restrictions begin to ease the pensioners have now formed new social bubbles and are eager to socialise and have fun once more.

Two small groups at Montgomery Court, which is run by West Kent Housing Association, wanted to try something new and so decided to try their hand at the video-sharing social network TikTok.

They learnt and rehearsed a dance to the viral soundtrack Laxed (Siren Beat) by Jawsh 685.

In the comments section one user posted "Love this", while another added "Go on nan".

In another video residents had even adapted some of the moves so residents in wheelchairs could join in too.

After posting TikToks online for the first time these dancing grannies and grandads have got their eyes set on more social media stardom.

But for now their next steps include learning new dance moves and simply recording more TikTok videos for fun.

Montgomery Court Scheme Manager Amanda said: “The tenants wanted something different to do, so I suggested doing a TikTok dance.

"Most didn't know what it was, but they do now and they’re asking when we’re doing the next one. It’s great to see them having fun and laughing together again.”
