Trains delayed after fighting on tracks at Rainham station

Police were called and trains were delayed after reports of youths fighting on the tracks at a railway station.

Officers were called to Rainham station just before 9pm last night following an assault and two teenagers were arrested.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and attempted robbery and has been released on bail while inquiries continue.

A 16-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and has been released under investigation.

Train operator Southeastern announced at 9.20pm that power to the lines between Gillingham and Sittingbourne had been turned off, due to reports of trespassers on the lines in the area, and that they were working with the police.

Trains were unable to operate in the area while the youths were dealt with but power was restored a short while later.
