Man arrested and woman treated for injuries after Ford Fiesta crashed in Upnor Road, Upnor, Rochester

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after crashing his car in a country lane in Rochester.

The emergency services were called out to the crash site in Upnor at about 8.45pm yesterday.

Firefighters, paramedics and police arrived in Upnor Road, to find the man's Ford Fiesta had smashed into a crash barrier close to the junction with Upchat Road.

A crew from Strood were sent to the scene and initially gave first aid to the woman who had been a passenger in the vehicle.

It is understood the crew left the pair in the care of paramedics before making the crash scene safe and leaving the area.

The woman was then taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham by paramedics after suffering injuries to her face.

Police arrested a 28-year-old man from Rochester at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving.

One woman who drove past the crash scene but didn't want to be named, said: "The car was completely in the barrier, but didn't look like there was anyone inside the car when we went past."

A spokesman for police added: "A 28-year-old man from Rochester was also arrested on suspicion of drink-driving."

The man was later bailed pending further inquiries until Wednesday, May 25.
