A pony has been seized after being found wandering along a country lane in the early hours.

Police were called after reports of the animal being spotted in Sharnal Street, High Halstow, at about 12.15am.

Police spokesman James Walker said: "Officers attended and safely located the horse

"At present, the owner has not been identified and the horse has been handed into the care of a private contractor."
