The Met Office has issued a weather warning with heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms expected across the southeast this afternoon.

The yellow warning for rain is from noon until 6pm this evening and localised surface water flooding is possible.

The chief forecaster has predicted that the weakening cold front that is slowly moving over the southeast of England, is likely to lead to heavy showers and possible thunderstorms.

Where there are showers, there is a risk of 20-30mm of rain falling in less than two hours.

A further warning has been issued for Monday with isolated thundery downpours predicted for the early hours of the morning.

Storms are likely to occur throughout the day with hail also expected. There is a risk of localised surface water flooding. The showers should die out by the evening.

The chief forecaster's assessment said a deeply unstable airmass will cover the southeast on Monday. The main risk will be during the day as temperatures rise. Some areas may experience intense downpours or 25mm of rain in an hour.
