Maroons will be fired on Thursday to mark the start of four days remembering Medway's wartime dead.

It begins at 11am on Thursday morning when a maroon will mark the start of the two-minute silence across the Towns.

The explosions occur at the precise moment the guns ceased firing in 1918 and 1945 to end the two world wars.

They will be fired from Fort Amherst. A second maroon will be launched two minutes later, ending the official silence.

The mayor will then lead the first commemoration at the war memorial in Victoria Gardens, Chatham, at 11am, while a crew from HMS Chatham will provide a guard of honour in front of the Destroyers Memorial at a short service at the Historic Dockyard at 10.45am.

On Saturday, the Royal Marines Association will hold their annual Remembrance Day service and Turning the Page ceremony in Rochester Cathedral at 10.45am.

The majority of events take place on Sunday - Remembrance Day.

Services include wreath-laying at the Great Lines memorial (9am), the Black Lion war memorial and St Mark's Church, Gillingham (9.55am), St Margaret's Church and war memorial, Rainham (10.15am), Arethusa Old Boys' Association Act of Remembrance at Lower Upnor (10.30am), Royal British Legion at Rochester Cathedral (10.40am), and Brompton War Memorial (11am).
