Published: 11:16, 27 January 2011

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy was robbed in Chatham.

The 17-year-old, from the town, was walking along Castle Road when he was pushed to the ground and threatened by two men.

They tried to steal his mobile phone, but escaped with just a pair of headphones.

Both men are described as black. One is said to be about 6ft 3in, with short dark hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a dark blue or black sports jacket, dark blue jeans and white trainers with a dark pattern.

The other man is described as 5ft 9in, of slim build with longer dark hair and brown eyes. He was wearing light blue jeans with a faded patch on the left leg and a dark hooded jacket. He was also carrying a black Nike bag over his left shoulder.

Officers are keen to speak to two men who might have witnessed the robbery on Monday between 5.30-5.50pm.

DC Caroline Bentley-Read said: "The teenager was pushed to the ground during the incident, but managed to get up and run away from the two men.

"A little further up the road two other men were walking and asked the teenager if he was OK. We would really like these two men to come forward to help with our investigation."

Anyone with any information is asked to phone police on 01634 792644 or CrimeStoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
