A woman had to be cut-free from her vehicle after a two-car crash which closed the A2 in both directions.

The crash happened this morning on the A2 High Street in Rainham between the Beefeater Manor Farm pub and restaurant and Rainham Shopping Precinct.

It is not thought anyone was seriously injured as a result of the smash, but police and paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene at about 8am.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of one vehicle so paramedics could assist a woman out of it.

The crash happened at the junction with Holding Street and involved a black and white car.

Another woman in another car was also helped out of her car by emergency crews.

The crash site has now been cleared and the road has been reopened.

Vicki Foster, spokesman for police said: " Kent Police was called at 8.04am.

"The road was closed for a short time while the incident was dealt with and it was reopened at around 9.40am."

Two ambulance crews were sent to the scene and paramedics treated two women at the scene before they were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.
