A woman was allegedly raped as she walked in the Great Lines Heritage Park in Gillingham, from a friend’s home during the early hours of last Saturday.

Officers investigating the reported rape say they are appealing for witnesses.

The incident happened in a grassy area of the park opposite the junction of Marlborough Road and Lock Street, at some point between 12.50am and 1.40am on Saturday, February 11.

It was said the 37-year-old woman had left a friend’s house to walk into town when she was approached by a man who raped her.

A police spokesman said: “He is described as being a stocky man of Indian appearance, aged in his 20s, with bushy eyebrows and neatly-cut sideburns.

“He was wearing a navy blue beanie hat, a white top with a red cross on it, and dark trousers.”

Officers from the Kent and Essex serious crime directorate have been carrying out a number of inquiries into the investigation and are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
