Young man cleared of rape

A young man has been cleared of rape and other sexual abuse of a young girl when he was aged between 11 and 13.

Stacey Woods, of Anson Close, Chatham, had denied rape, indecent assault and indecency with a child.

Now aged 21, it was alleged at Maidstone Crown Court he committed the offences after telling the girl he had something to show her.

Woods told police the allegations were rubbish when arrested last year.

Judge Jeremy Gold QC told the jury after not guilty verdicts were returned: "This type of case is always difficult. You have heard some distressing evidence."
