'Crowd trouble' forces referee to abandon Medway Messenger Youth League football match

An under 12s football match had to be abandoned due to crowd disorder.

As far as potentially turbulent fixtures go, the youth clash between Rainham 84 and Woodpecker HI Rovers, from Hoo, hardly ranks with Galatasaray v Millwall.

But the result of the fixture in the Medway Messenger Youth League - "abandoned after 58 minutes due to crowd trouble" - means the clash is now subject to an investigation.

The Kent FA confirmed a referee's report was now in the hands of its chairman, and that correspondence from parties present at the match had been submitted.

Club representatives and league secretary Christine Carey were unable to comment in detail on the incident, but a Rainham 84 spokesman confirmed child welfare officers were involved.

"A couple of parents had a bit of a pop at the referee, who decided to abandon the game," he added.
