Manager Justin Edinburgh hopes his Gillingham side have finally banished their away-day blues.

An almost-faultless home record has helped propel the Gills towards the top of League 1.

But prior to Saturday’s 3-1 victory at Chesterfield the Gills had taken just one win from their previous five outings. They had lost the last two away games, at Colchester and Barnsley.

It was something Edinburgh was determined to put right and victory on Saturday took the Gills up to third in the table, just one point behind leaders Walsall.

Edinburgh said: “Away wins are very important and we spoke about it during our team meeting at the hotel before the game.

“We had to get a win from somewhere, a platform to build on, because we know the home form is taking care of itself.

“It is working at home but we have been a little bitty away from home. Hopefully this can kickstart it for us.”

Edinburgh’s side are away again next Saturday when they travel to bottom club Crewe.
