Lapses in concentration proved costly for the Gills, said manager Justin Edinburgh.

The manager had no criticism over his players’ efforts over the 90 minutes at Bristol Rovers but his team were punished twice late on.

For the third game running the Gills had taken the lead but lost 2-1, with both Rovers goals coming in the dying minutes.

Edinburgh said: “It does become a bit psychological. In the last few games and weeks we have led and not been able to see the results through but that is the mental side and we to overcome it.

“Physically, they are running and putting their bodies on the line, that is fine. But perhaps there needs to be a bit more attention to putting themselves in the right position to see the games out. We are just not making the right decisions.

“People got caught wrong side, certainly for the first one.

“Just a lapse of concentration, it’s just those split seconds. Sometimes you get away with them but right now we are not. We have to keep doing what we’re doing (in terms of effort) and that will change.”

Captain Josh Wright put them ahead midway through the second half but Gills conceded on 83 minutes and lost it after 90.

“It looked like there was one team that was going to win,” said the Gills boss.

“But credit to Bristol, they have come at us with everything.

“For them they have scored (their first) at the right time and for us it was a blow. We galvanised ourselves and we looked worthy of a draw, at least.

“Right now those 90 minute (goals) are starting to hurt us. We are not collecting enough points from winning positions and that is a disappointment.”
