Anchorians Football Club were disappointed to find another team using their facilities to train on during lockdown.

It’s currently against Covid laws to gather as a group and around 10 people were photographed using the facilities in Gillingham.

Grassroots football remains off limits until later this month.

On Saturday, Anchorians tweeted: “Disappointed to have been notified that a team from another club was training at our grounds today.

“The club in question has been contacted and referred to the Kent FA. Anchorians FC does not condone breaking the law and regulations in any form.”

On the previous day the Kent FA had used social media to remind clubs and players of the rules, saying: “We're edging closer to a return to football - but please remember that grassroots football activity remains suspended until 29 March 2021.

“Please continue to follow current guidance.”

The team were using an open playing field to train on. Anchorians have said no damage was caused to their facilities but they were keen to raise awareness.

Club chairman Leigh Willis said: “We just wanted to raise awareness that we are still in the pandemic and people should still be taking it seriously and following the laws of the land, to keep people safe.”

The 2020/21 grassroots season has been extended until the end of June in order to provide additional flexibility and time for leagues to complete their fixtures this season if they wish to do so.
