Swansea City v Gillingham FA Cup team news: Max Ehmer in line for Gills return

Max Ehmer is primed for a return to Gillingham’s starting line-up for this weekend’s FA Cup trip to Swansea.

An injury to centre-half Alex Lacey last Saturday, coupled with a number of defensive errors throughout the team, means Ehmer is set to be recalled.

The German defender has been waiting patiently on the sidelines after returning a fortnight ago from a dislocated shoulder picked up at Scunthorpe.

Lacey looks set to be out for a couple of weeks with an ankle injury and boss Steve Lovell said: “There is a chance for him now, but we knew all along, people get their opportunities at some stage. You have to make sure they stay focused and they are raring to go.

“It’s the same with Barry Fuller, Brandon Hanlan, Regan Charles-Cook, Dean Parrett – all the boys. They have to be focused on a chance that could come along and they have to make sure they are ready when it does.”

Charles-Cook, Hanlan and leading scorer Tom Eaves all came off the bench last weekend and created a number of late chances against Walsall.

“Regan and Brandon looked lively and that is a good plus for me,” added Lovell. “Brandon and Tom work quite well together.”

A midweek friendly against West Ham gave a number of the Gills players valuable minutes, including Ehmer. Read the report here.

Lovell did also confirm that midfielder Parrett has returned to full training this week.

Swansea have largely remained unchanged in recent weeks but have injury concerns ahead of the weekend.

Central defender Joe Rodon is definitely out after breaking a bone in his foot in last Saturday's 1-0 win over Sheffield United. Winger Wayne Routledge is also a doubt after suffering a calf strain in the same game.
