Ryan Ravenscroft scored Holcombe's first goal

Holcombe men’s 1sts team manager Mike Haines has warned his side they could fall too far behind the Conference East leaders unless they start turning draws into wins.

Draw specialists Holcs shared a 3-3 scoreline at Ipswich on Saturday and now find themselves nine points behind leaders Canterbury.

Holcombe were dealt an early blow when Andy West was forced to withdraw through injury.

Despite the setback, Ryan Ravenscroft put Holcs 1-0 up before Ipswich pulled level.

Holcs then found themselves 3-1 down before late goals from Simon Ramsden and Yasser Khan ensured a share of the points.

Holcombe have drawn four of their opening eight league games and Haines said: “We had lot of chances but we’re not taking them. That gives the opposition confidence.

“After our win against Sevenoaks last week I thought our defensive frailties were starting to be put right.

“Then we let three in against Ipswich. We’ve got to pick up maximum points against the bottom sides. When you look at the league there are a lot of teams beating one another and we’re not dead in the water yet.

“However, if we don’t start picking up points against the lower teams then it is going to make it more difficult.”
