Gillingham will be hoping an injury to Barry Fuller picked up on Tuesday night isn’t serious.

Fuller limped out of action early on at Bristol Rovers after receiving a bang to the knee.

He recently passed the 200-appearance mark for the Gills - describing the landmark as an honour and privilege - and has been a key player in defence since his return to Priestfield last summer.

Boss Steve Evans said: “He just got a knock on the knee. I said to him he should have passed it five minutes before and he just laughed. Barry will do all he can to be right for the weekend.”

Evans does have Lee Hodson at his disposal. He was left out on Tuesday night - in Gills' 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers - but can slot straight in at right-back in required.

The Gills did improve when they went to a wing-back formation, however, with Mark Marshall impressing on the flank. He came on from the bench because he was ill.

“I thought he was terrific,” Evans said.

“He was struggling, he was again after the game, but we will wrap him up for a day or two and make sure he is okay.

“Hopefully the medical team will have done their best to rid it.”

The Gills players stayed away from the club on Sunday after a virus swept through the club last week, and most are now rid of the symptoms.

“It’s very difficult when (a virus) comes in,” Evans said.

“You just want it to go away to give yourself the chance to pick from a fully fit squad.

“We have the smallest squad in League 1, that’s not up for debate.

“You can count the numbers, and count the players we’ve got. We need our options available to us.”

Mikael Ndjoli was suffering with a slight thigh strain on Tuesday and will be assessed. Midfielder Matty Willock remains sidelined.
