Gillingham’s out of contract winger Callum Harriott is moving on after three months with the club.

It’s been a frustrating time at the Gills for the 28-year-old since joining the Gills as a free agent in November.

The former Reading player initially agreed a short-term deal at the Gills but had to prove his fitness before he could play, arriving with high hopes, saying at the time: “I am hoping I can bring that magic in a game and help with goals and assists.”

Harriott finally made his debut for the Gills on Boxing Day, coming on as a late substitute against his old team Colchester.

His only start for the Gills came the following match, at Sutton, but was substituted after an hour. He also came off the bench at Stevenage and in the FA Cup game against Leicester City on January 7 - before picking up an injury.

Gills boss Neil Harris was happy for the winger to continue training with them after his contract expired, keeping an open mind over whether to offer him a new deal, but the player, who turns 29 on Saturday, will be heading elsewhere after no new deal was agreed.

Last week Harris said: "Attitude and commitment-wise he has been excellent and is a lad who shows us regularly that he has pedigree.”

Since he joined the club the Gills have enjoyed a successful January transfer window thanks to new investment.

Harriott announced his departure on twitter, writing: “My time at Gillingham is up. Good to be fit again and was happy to play some games for you Gills! All the best moving forward.”

He leaves after making four appearances for the club.
