FOOTBALL-loving youngsters in the Medway area are being urged to form five-a-side teams to play in a cup competition at Gillingham's Black Lion Leisure Centre on Saturday, March 23.

The football tournament, aimed at children in school years 7-11, costs only £1.50 per player to enter with a minimum of three games per team.

Event organiser Kevin Knowles aid: "Although adults can play five-a-side football seven days per week, kids don't get the same opportunities but we give them a chance to do that. It's indoors so it doesn't get waterlogged and, above all else, it's good fun. Playing football is a lot better than just watching the game."

The Black Lion Leisure Centre already hold a five-a-side league tournament each Saturday with 24 teams competing although Mr Knowles says more players are welcome to join.

He added: "We're looking to attract a few more teams to our league competition which takes place on Saturdays for 10 weeks. Hopefully, we'll have a few trophies for the winners as well."

If you would like to get involved or would like more information about the cup tournament or the league competition contact Mr Knowles on 01634 724 989.
