All eyes will be on Anfield as Gillingham’s name is in the hat for Round Three of the FA Cup.

Liverpool - the FA Cup holders - will play host to the draw on Monday night as the big boys enter at the Third Round stage, along with the 20 Round Two winners. Eighteen teams have won through with the Gills and Dagenham just one of two second round ties that will require a replay.

All of the Premier League sides enter at the third round, along with those from the Championship. Third round ties will take place on the weekend of Saturday, January 7, but the Gills have a tricky challenge ahead to make it there. They claimed a last-gasp draw against Dagenham.

National League side Dagenham were leading the Gills 1-0 in the Second Round match at the Chigwell Construction Stadium before Scott Kashket’s stoppage-time strike levelled the game and took the tie back to Priestfield for a replay. That match will take place next week, and with just two replays from the Second Round, it could well be televised. Stockport host Charlton in the other replay.

A prize pot of £67,000 is available for the winners of the replay but more riches could be had with a draw against one of the Premier League’s top sides in Round Three. The Gills have already cashed in this season with a sell-out Carabao Cup game at Brentford and potentially another one coming up against Wolves.

“We want a home game for sure,” said Gills boss Neil Harris. “If you are going to be in the third round you want a home game against a Premier League team, if not it’s a waste of time.”

Gillingham and Dagenham are ball no.58 in the draw.

Ebbsfleet United were knocked out at the Second Round stage after losing 1-0 to Fleetwood Town on Sunday.
