Gillingham will need to make a decision on whether to offer a new deal to winger Callum Harriott.

The 28-year-old former Charlton and Reading player was signed by the Gills on a short-term contract a month ago.

At the time of his signing manager Neil Harris admitted they would have to be patient with the wide-man as he got himself back to fitness, after 18 months without competitive football.

Harriott’s arrival was announced on November 23 and he made his first Gills appearance on Boxing Day, coming off the bench against his former club Colchester United.

He started the game at Sutton but was taken off after an hour and made two more substitute appearances, against Stevenage and Leicester City in the FA Cup. Since then he’s picked up an injury - a tear in his quadricep - which has meant it’s been difficult for manager Neil Harris to make a decision on the player.

The Gills boss said: “It’s a blow for us and a blow for Callum because he’s on a short-term deal but doing really well and really progressing nicely.

“His deal comes to an end soon, we are talking to Callum, he is in the building with us, but we have to make sure we are patient and we get him up to speed before we have any further discussions.”
