Gillingham have responded to criticism from Dartford over their approach for youngster Ebou Adams.

The 20-year-old has sealed a move to Premier League Norwich City ahead of the transfer deadline.

Dartford co-chairman Steve Irving claimed the Gills “weren’t interested” in watching the player in action, after inquiring about taking him on trial for a week.

The Gills had made their initial trial offer six weeks ago but claimed their were told Dartford’s busy schedule meant it was not possible to let the midfielder join in training with the League 1 side.

Gillingham were waiting on Dartford for a free date but the National South side have now cashed in after selling to Norwich.

A Gills source said: “Our scout watched him a few times in games, as did other members of our staff.

“We knew all about him and we wanted to see him in training with the first team. We were waiting for them to have a free week.

“To say we weren’t interested in watching him isn’t the case.”

Adams’ transfer to Norwich is the biggest in Dartford’s history, although the figures remain undisclosed.
