Leon Legge sat out the weekend clash at Leyton Orient as Gills boss Peter Taylor considered the challenges that lie ahead.

Legge was back in training before the weekend, after recovering from a hamstring injury but Taylor didn’t want to throw him straight back into action.

Taylor said: “It would have been a risk. You look at the situation and think, he could have played brilliant (at Leyton Orient) and we get beaten and we still have four matches to go.

“I didn’t want to take the chance of Leon getting another hamstring injury by coming back too early.”

Taylor felt he still had enough options in defence for the match at Leyton Orient, should he have wanted to make a change.

He said: “We had Steven Gregory or Elliott Hewitt could have gone in there. We were a little light in that area but I think the 90 minutes was good for Charlie Lee.”

Taylor also decided against rushing Danny Kedwell back. The Gills boss wanted him to have another week of training before he returns.

The Gills are back in action against Tranmere on Friday and Taylor’s latest concern is Jake Hessenthaler, who limped off at the end of Saturday’s game.

Taylor said: “Hess felt his hamstring and we thought we would get him off. Hopefully, it will be just a slight one.”
