Assistant boss David Kerslake hailed Gillingham's defensive side but was disappointed with their attacking play.

The goalless draw with Coventry was Gillingham’s fourth clean sheet in five games.

“The result was about right,” said the Gills No.2.

“We are deeply disappointed we haven’t taken three but it probably wasn’t one of our better home performances that we have had.

“But we dug in when needed and with a bit of luck, and run of the ball, we may have nicked it, but it was probably a fair result.

“They (Coventry) popped it into nice holes but I thought our centre halves were outstanding and we just lacked a little bit of creativity in the final third. That was disappointing for us.”

The Gills had a bit of good fortune at the end when Marcus Tudgay lashed a great chance against the bar.

Kerslake said: “I am not sure if it is luck, the way you set your team up, how hard they work, they are going to get some piece of luck during the season, like everybody will.

“Just because that was in the 88th minute you think, ‘thank God that didn’t go in’, but we will have a look at how it got there. I think it came from our own mistake, it wasn’t as if they carved us open, so we will address that on Monday morning.

“We have seven games left now, four at home and it’s looking around 74 points would probably do it (for a play-off place), so a point a game, but we still have ambitions and we are trying to win all seven and see where that takes us.”
