Several first team players got valuable minutes for the Gills in a midweek friendly against West Ham.

Centre-back Max Ehmer, striker Brandon Hanlan and full-back Barry Fuller all played 45 minutes in the 2-1 defeat, while Regan Charles-Cook was taken off midway through the second half.

Hanlan scored an early goal for the Gills after good work from Liam Nash in the build-up. The young forward picked out the top corner from a tight angle.

Fuller, back in action after an injury, prevented several goalscoring opportunities and was booked for a pull on an opponent’s shirt.

West Ham levelled the match just after the hour mark with Nathan Holland’s effort beating Gills keeper Tom Hadler, despite him getting a touch.

Holland came close to a second moments later but was denied by the Gills stopper.

What turned out to be the winning goal came on 67 minutes when Jahmal Hector-Ingram scored from the penalty spot after he had been fouled by Gills sub Miguell Scarlett.

Gillingham came close to an equaliser through Nash but his shot struck the woodwork.
