Gillingham midfielder Jake Hessenthaler felt a point was the least his team deserved at Coventry.

The hosts won 1-0 but came under plenty of pressure from Peter Taylor’s unfancied Gills.

He said: “The boys put in a great shift, especially in the second half, where we created lots of chances.

“It was just disappointed we couldn’t take at least one of them.

“We are absolutely disappointed to have not got at least a point but we are still happy with how we performed. If we can perform like that each week then we will pick up points along the way.

“Overall we are pretty happy.”

Coventry attracted almost 28,000 to their first game back at the Ricoh Arena. The Gills had played infront of 1,600 last time out, at Stevenage.

“It was amazing,” said Hessenthaler, who scored against City from 40 yards in March, to claim the Gills goal-of-the-season trophy.

“When we first walked out, to see that crowd, it was a great experience. The boys adapted well, we gave them a great game and I think we deserved a point out of it.”

And Hessenthaler believes the performance will give them the confidence to go on and pick up plenty of points along the way.

“We can build on that,” said the 20-year-old.

“Even though we didn’t pick up any points we can take a lot out of it and try and look towards Oldham away next Saturday and try and get something up there.”
