Elliott Hewitt is expected to return for Gillingham this weekend.

The on-loan Ipswich player missed Wednesday’s defeat to Sheffield United through illness But Gills boss Peter Taylor is hopeful the versatile defender can return for the trip to Oldham.

“He was ill, unfortunately, but he should be ok for Saturday,” said Taylor, when explaining Hewitt’s midweek absence.

“I didn’t say anything before the game because I was hoping he was going to recover but by Tuesday, I knew he was struggling.”

Hewitt hasn’t played since being sent-off at Stevenage in early February.

Midfielder Jake Hessenthaler and striker Joe Pigott will be pushing Connor Smith and Adebayo Akinfenwa for a start in the team.

Leon Legge is likely to replace the injured Ryan Inniss.
