Holcombe excel in indoor league

Dave Mathews scored 11 goals for Holcombe

Holcombe Hockey Club powered to victory in the Men’s Indoor EHL Division 2 South at Tonbridge over the weekend.

They won four of their five matches, and drew the other, to finish top of the table and book a place in the Division 1 qualifiers at Staines later this month.

Player-coach Dave Mathews was the star of the show, scoring 11 goals, while Holcombe’s two keepers, 39-year-old Sean Parker and 17-year-old Diccon Stubbings, also did well.

Holcombe squad: Sean Parker, Diccon Stubbings, Yasser Khan, Liam Foster, Dave Mathews, Iain Brine, Richard Fulford, Adam Jordan, John Montgomery, Andrew West, Adnan Zakir, Peter Turner, Harwinder Chima.

Holcombe results: bt Fareham 9-5 (Mathews 5, Zakir 2, Foster, Jordan); bt Southgate 3-1 (Turner. Mathews, West); bt Guildford 9-5 (Mathews 2, Jordan 2, Khan 2, Brine, Cheema, West); bt West Herts 4-3 (Mathews, Brine, Khan, Fulford); drew 4-4 with Maidstone (Mathews 2, Brine, Turner).
