Republic of Ireland call-up for Gillingham midfielder Emmanuel Osadebe

Gills midfielder Emmanuel Osadebe has been called up to train with the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad.

The 19-year-old scored a wonder-goal for the Gills on Saturday in a 3-1 victory over Bury.

His form for the Gills has now been rewarded with an opportunity to impress with the Irish under-21s.

Since signing for the League 1 club in the summer from Tottenham’s foundation college programme, Osadebe has played 13 times for the club.

Osadebe – nicknamed Paddy by his team-mates – originates from Ireland. He was part of Dundalk’s youth team before moving to England and also played for Bay United.

He tweeted the news on Monday morning.

The Irish under-21s had a shock defeat against Lithuania last time out on Friday in a UEFA under-21 championship qualifier.

Osadebe will be training with the squad ahead of Ireland's friendly game against Norway on Tuesday night.
