Rochester water ski racer Jake Frame has put himself in contention for a place at next year’s World Finals.

The 24-year-old, who trains at All Hallows, has just returned from Dunoon in Scotland where he retained his European F2 title.

He’s already clinched the British title for the third time and will have to now wait to see if his efforts have been enough to take on the world at Vichy in France.

Frame races at speeds of 75-80mph, over periods of 35 minutes in length.

“It’s great fun,” he said. “I love the adrenalin of it, the fitness that goes into it and it’s also really family orientated.”

His dad Simon Faulkner is the boat driver and the family travel across the country watching them both compete. The team is made completed with observer Glenn Rix, relaying messages from the skier to the driver throughout the race.

If the team get to go to the worlds, Jake will have to stay on his feet for an hour, plus a lap, a huge test of stamina.

“At least in a race of an hour if you fall down you’ve got a chance to catch up,” said the champion water skier.

“The boat is capable of doing 100mph but it’s no point going that fast if you can’t stay on your feet. We train at All Hallows and train for an hour’s racing. You just have to make sure you pace yourself.”
