Gillingham’s recently departed coach Jamie Day scored on his return to football at the weekend.

The 38-year-old lined up for Southern Counties East, Premier Division side Cray Valley.

Day left the Gills a fortnight ago following the exit of head coach Ady Pennock.

Their pair joined the Gills at the same time, back in January.

Prior to his coaching job at Priestfield, Day was manager of Conference South Welling.

But he put his boots back on again to face Rochester United at Rede Court Road on Saturday, scoring an equaliser with just seven minutes left. Cray won 2-1.

He has joined a Cray team under the management of former Chatham boss Kevin Watson, who has signed a number of players recently, including former Leyton Orient striker Kevin Lisbie.
