Gillingham left-back David Tutonda could be out until next year while Alex MacDonald is also facing a spell on the sidelines.

The pair are the latest to suffer injuries in the Gills camp - in the same week that Ryan Jackson and Mustapha Carayol finally returned to action after recovering from their own injury issues.

Tutonda broke down in the defeat at Wycombe Wanderers last weekend and manager Steve Evans has put a 10-week timescale on his return.

MacDonald picked up a knee injury on Thursday in training while striking the ball.

“It is pretty horrendous,” said Evans, whose squad has been hampered with injuries since the season kicked off.

"It seems to be one thing after another but we have to get on with it.

“We have lost key players and Alex is another but we will regroup, put on the pitch what we can on Tuesday (at home to Doncaster Rovers) and go again.”

Evans was able to name both Jackson and Carayol in the starting eleven on Saturday, against Sunderland.

Carayol had missed the previous six league games, suffering an injury just as he was coming into form. Gills were also without right-back Jackson for a similar length of time.

“I had to take a risk with Mustapha and Jacko,” Evans admitted, having made his decision on the morning of the game to play them both. He was reluctant to bring in youngsters for such a big fixture.

He added: “Our injuries at present are horrific but we will train in the morning (on Monday) and see who is available.

“Our options are thin on the ground but it is what it is.”
