Young Gillingham striker Roman Campbell has signed for Isthmian League Premier Division side Enfield Town.

The 19-year-old recently returned from a month on loan at Sittingbourne - enjoying his second spell there with the Brickies.

The Gills were keen to give Campbell more experience but boss Steve Evans said earlier this week that he wasn’t willing to let him go for nothing.

He has joined Enfield for a month.

Their boss Andy Leese said: "We need cover for a challenging series of games and Roman comes highly recommended to us.

“He is young and we hope to be able to assist with his development."

He is named on the bench for Enfield in their FA Cup match against Chichester City.”

He didn’t play for Sittingbourne in their FA Cup match in early September so was free to play.

Speaking earlier this week, Evans said:

He said: “One or two local non-league clubs phoned up and asked if he can come on loan but they don’t want to pay anything for his wages.

“My reply has been, ‘when I get one for free, you can have one for free’.

“When we phone up for players Mr Scally certainly has to pay for them.

“It is in our interest to have Roman playing. We will always try and help other non-league clubs, but by the same token we want something, we don’t want nothing.”
