Gillingham manager Steve Lovell won’t be stressing over the transfer deadline.

While some of their League 1 rivals are busy trying to beat tonight’s 11pm deadline to sign permanent recruits, Lovell is happy with what he’s got.

He said: “We have got a few people out injured at the moment but we have people who can come in and do a job like they did last Saturday.

“Some people said I signed players too early in the window and that we should have waited but if players become available that you want then what's the point of waiting?

“I said to the chairman I would like to get these players in as soon as we could and that's what we did. He was with me on it and we got them in. It's a good job because with the injuries that we have had now, the boys have gone in and performed in the team.”

Lovell’s attempt to make a signing last week hit a brick wall and he’s not likely to go back, and with the loan market open for business until the end of the month, he still has options available.

He said: “It was clear that the one we went for was never going to leave the football club at this particular time so there was no point (in making another offer). Once you make an offer for somebody and the club turn around and say ‘no, we are not selling’ then that's the end of it.

“It's disappointing but they are entitled to do that as we would with our players.”

There has been speculation that goalkeeper Tomas Holy could be subject to offers before the window shuts but the Gills are reluctant to sell.

Lovell said: “Unless it is a ridiculous amount of money then we don't want to sell anybody. If you do sell somebody you only have to go and replace them anyway.”
