Gillingham striker Cody McDonald is determined to have a memorable run in the FA Cup.

McDonald has had few highlights in the competition so far, including first round exits with the Gills in the last three seasons.

The 30-year-old said: “It would be nice, before my time is up, to have a little run in the FA Cup. Hopefully, this will be it.

“I have not done that well in the FA Cup, either in non-league or at a league club.

“It is a competition that excites me, it is a competition that everyone looks forward to playing in and I am looking forward to playing in it on Saturday.

“Hopefully, we can do the business, get into the further rounds and get a big club, like we have done in the League Cup against Watford and Tottenham.”

The Gills face a Brackley side this weekend who knocked them out of the competition in 2013 after a replay.

McDonald started the first game and came off the bench in the second.

The striker said: “Brackley possibly surprised us last time we played them. Maybe we took them too lightly but they came here and played well. We scored a real late goal through Bradley Dack to get us a replay and they took us by surprise a bit.

“We can’t make that mistake again this time around. We know that they are going to come here with a lot of confidence off the back of that game, even if it’s not the same players.

“We won’t be taking it lightly, that’s for sure."
