Cody McDonald is hoping to have the last laugh when he meets a familiar face at Priestfield this weekend.

The Gills striker will be looking to get the better of former loan goalkeeper Stephen Bywater on Saturday.

Bywater played 14 games for the Gills, on loan from Millwall, as cover for injured Stuart Nelson earlier this season. Since leaving Priestfield, he quit the Lions and is now Doncaster’s No.1 stopper.

The goalkeeper was a popular figure at the Gills, during his short stay but won’t be given an easy ride by 16-goal McDonald.

“I am sure we can have a little laugh after the game – hopefully at their expense,” said the Gills frontman. “It will be nice to catch up with Stephen. He is a fantastic keeper and a great lad.

“He did an unbelievable job when he came in. He is a big name in football and has been around a long time.

“Sometimes when you come in and the pressure is on you, it can hinder you a bit. He was great in and around the lads. He is an all-round great person.

“A lot of the lads still speak to him, he’s a top player and I am sure he is looking forward to coming to Priestfield."
