Glenn Morris turned in a sensational display to help Gillingham win their Premier League U21 Cup game at Cardiff City.

Gillingham’s 30-year-old third-choice keeper was named as an over-aged player for the game at Cardiff.

The hosts included first team players Ben Turner, Javi Guerra, Mats Møller Dæhli and Declan John.

Apart from Morris, Gills boss Peter Taylor decided against sending any other senior players to the Cardiff City Stadium.

And the Gills produced a smash and grab when Aidan Blanchard fired home from 20 yards to nick the win.

Morris was replaced late on after apparently picking up a knock. He is currently no.3 in the pecking order at Gills, with Stuart Nelson and Stephen Bywater fighting for the no.1 shirt.

Gillingham: Morris (Hadler 75mins), Hare, Romeo, Staunton, Bent (Ibbertson 65mins), M Dickenson, Webster, Blanchard, Millbank, Freiter, Sellens. Subs not used: Emptage, Stannard.
