Gillingham have completed their second new signing of the day.

Hot on the heels of midfielder Danny Lloyd’s arrival, the Gills have brought goalkeeper Aaron Chapman to Priestfield.

Like Lloyd, Chapman played under Steve Evans at Peterborough and counts Tranmere among his former clubs.

He was part of the Accrington side who won League 2 three years ago, landing the golden gloves award for the most clean sheets.

The 31-year-old, who stands 6ft 7in, spent last season with Scottish Premiership club Motherwell, making six appearances.

Gillingham have been in the market for a new goalkeeper since Jack Bonham - who’s since joined Stoke - rejected a new deal at Priestfield.

Chapman fits the bill but Evans will also be signing another keeper.

“Chappy is a top goalkeeper,” said the Gills boss.

“He lost his way a little after he lost the No.1 jersey at Posh, he won’t be the first or the last.

“I had a very similar thing with Jordan Graham last summer, so Chappy now has that same challenge.

“He knows another goalkeeper will be added soon as I want good competition for that shirt.

“He was brilliant at times and he certainly was here at Priestfield when I came here with Posh.

“Without doubt, he is a very good signing.”
