Former QPR youngster Darren Oldaker signs professional deal under boss Justin Edinburgh at Gillingham

Teenage midfielder Darren Oldaker has signed his first professional deal for Gillingham.

The 17-year-old former Queens Park Rangers youngster has made a big impression since switching to Priestfield.

Gillingham are now hoping he can flourish in the senior set-up.

Boss Justin Edinburgh said: “We have got a good young player here in Darren Oldaker. His performances in the youth team and the development team last season were good.”

Oldaker trained regularly with the first team last season.

“Hopefully I can make my first team debut next season,” said the youngster, who appeared on the bench several times last season.

“I’m very excited and it means a lot to sign a professional contract. I learned a lot training and being around the first team last season. I feel like I’ve grown up and become a man.”
