Police review footage of trouble at the end of Gillingham's League 1 fixture against Rotherham United at Priestfield

Police are investigating the violence that marred the end of Gillingham’s game against Rotherham United on Saturday.

Officers are reviewing footage of incidents at the final whistle when rival fans clashed on the Priestfield pitch.

On Wednesday, a police spokesperson said: “Kent Police is reviewing footage of alleged offences committed at Priestfield Stadium following the match between Gillingham FC and Rotherham United on Saturday 30 April 2022.

“Enquiries are ongoing. There have been no arrests to date.”

Over 2,000 Rotherham fans were in attendance at Priestfield and there were several pitch incursions from the away section towards the end of the game, delaying play shortly, before a large-scale invasion at the final whistle.

Fans also flooded onto the pitch from the home end.

Gillingham were relegated from League 1 following the defeat while Rotherham celebrated promotion after their victory.
