Records fell at the Julie Rose Stadium on Saturday as the class of 2015 was tested in the Kent Schools Athletics Championships, writes Alan Newman.

Intermediate boys’ winners included Henry Marshall (Sevenoaks & Tonbridge) at 400m (51.75sec) and Toby Seal (Sevenoaks & Tonbridge) in the 100m hurdles (14.27). Samuel Crick (Sevenoaks & Tonbridge) set a new record in the 1,500m steeplechase (4min43.70sec).

Oliver Hussey (Maidstone, 13.97) and Alfie Scopes (Sevenoaks & Tonbridge, 13.65) dominated the shot with English Schools (ES) standards and Scopes added gold in the discus (49.09) with an elite National Standard (NS) result. The javelin was won by 2014 English Schools champion James Whiteaker (Sevenoaks & Tonbridge, 67.38 NS) as Sonny Nash (Medway, 53.48 ES) also surpassed the entry standard for silver.

The intermediate girls’ events saw medals for Medway’s Megan Walsh (41.47) and Sian Keegan (41.77) in the 300m final. Holly Gordon (Sevenoaks & Tonbridge) won the 3,000m (12.41.33), Imogen Munday (Medway) took the 300m hurdles (47.7) and Amber Durrant (Maidstone) took the high jump title (1.60).

Junior boys’ results included a win for Quinn Austin (Medway) at 1,500m (4.34.99) and Isaac Milham (Medway) in the 80m hurdles (11.83 ES). Jack Royden (Medway) qualified with gold in the shot (13.21 ES) and was joined at that level by James O’Gorman (Sevenoaks & Tonbridge) at discus (34.48 ES) and David Fulbrook (Tunbridge Wells) with the javelin (44.91 ES).

Junior girls’ winners included Evie Butler (Sevenoaks & Tonbridge) at 800m (2.23.72) and Kathleen Faes (Sevenoaks & Tonbridge) over 1,500m (4.38.04 NS). There was a clean sweep of the medals for Medway athletes Emily Featherstone (12.16), Ashleigh West (12.39) and Eleanor Wastell (12.54) in the 75m hurdles. Featherstone (5.02) added the long jump gold for good measure.

Kirsty-Anne Ebbage (Sevenoaks & Tonbridge) won the hammer (35.45 ES) and there was superb throwing from Bromley’s Eloise Locke in the shot (12.17 NS) and javelin (37.50 NS) with two more records.
