Brandon Hanlan grabbed Gillingham’s equalising goal at Bradford on Easter Monday.

Kelvin Mellor headed already-relegated Bradford infront after just 10 minutes but Hanlan levelled it up early in the second half, scoring a goal that the home players felt should have been struck off for a foul on their keeper.

Regan Charles-Cook came closest to finding a winner, but his shot from the edge of the box bounced off the bar.

Gills boss Steve Lovell dropped leading scorer Tom Eaves to the bench, preferring instead to play Tahvon Campbell upfront. Elliott List and Leo Da Silva Lopes were also brought into the starting eleven.

Former Gills captain Josh Wright started for hosts Bradford, whose relegation to League 2 was confirmed on Good Friday.

Luke O’Neill fired an early effort over for the Gills, while Campbell looked bright, but it was the hosts who took the lead when Billy Clarke’s free-kick was headed in by Mellor.

Gillingham were unable to test the home keeper in the opening half, putting all of their efforts wide of the mark.

O’Neill curled a free-kick over, Hanlan had a header and a shot both wide of the mark, as did Campbell, while substitute Bradley Garmston struck a shot into the crowd.

Garmston was a replacement for Barry Fuller, who limped off following a knock.

Gillingham’s first half finishing needed improving but Leo Da Silva Lopes’ early second half chance missed by some distance.

Hanlan’s goal came on 53 minutes, challenging home keeper Ben Wilson to the ball from Garmston’s cross and he managed to bundle it over the line. The goal was given despite home fans believing their goalie had been fouled.

Charles-Cook went close with a fine strike that hit the woodwork and Campbell had a shot blocked.
