Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh insists the only way to answer critics is with three points

Boss Justin Edinburgh says it’s for others to decide whether there has been an overreaction to Gillingham’s poor form this season.

Edinburgh has survived calls for his sacking to lead Gills to three wins in four matches.
They’re up to 15th in League 1, seven points clear of the relegation zone and only three points off the play-off places.

It’s respectable for a team and a manager who have come in for such heavy criticism – but it’s not for Edinburgh to decide whether people have gone over the top.

“That would be for other people to probably answer that,” he said.

“I believe that the chairman has showed an unbelievable faith and belief in myself, which makes everything that’s gone on around so much easier to deal with.

“It’s a start. There’s facts, there’s reasons, but if I didn’t have those facts and reasons then I think people could be looking at it and judging.

“But the only way we can answer any critics is by getting results and we’re starting to show a little bit of consistent form within the league now, so that’s pleasing."

Edinburgh hopes Gills’ improvement gets everyone behind the team and stops calls for a change at the top.

He added: “It gives us breathing space but we know how quickly that can turn around.

“The signs are they’re performing on a consistent basis now and that’s got to be our aim and goal to continue that because that’s what comes along with it – three wins in four.

“We’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing. I always say the day I got given the job here there were people who didn’t think I was good enough for it. Nothing changes, does it?”
