Striker Rhys Murphy will be out to impress in a training-ground match on Tuesday.

The free-agent striker is hoping to win a deal at Gillingham.

Murphy, 27, has been training with the Gills for a fortnight and has impressed manager Steve Lovell.

He’ll be taking part in an in-house 90-minute game, after original opponents Barnet pulled out.

“I like him and we will see how it goes,” said Lovell.

“His fitness is something he had to work on and he has worked really hard, doing extra work since he’s been here.

“He’s a good lad, he’s a clever player and he’s done okay.”

The practice match is also likely to feature midfielder Scott Wagstaff, who is back training after a hamstring injury. He trained last week as well.

Lovell said: “Hopefully he will come through that with a view to being involved on Saturday.”
