Gillingham say they have “rebuffed” attempts to lure defender Connor Ogilvie away from Priestfield.

Ogilvie has regularly attracted interest and it’s transfer deadline day for teams in the top-flight. The Gills took to twitter to "confirm media reports" in Scotland that the defender is attracting attention from clubs in the Scottish Premier League.

Gillingham tweeted: “The gaffer confirms media reports over the weekend in Scotland that there has been SPL interest in Connor Ogilvie.

“The interest has been rebuffed by the Gills.”

Ogilvie, 24, has impressed under Steve Evans’ management, having made him his first permanent signing when joining the club.

The defender has played over 100 league games for the Gills and was voted player-of-the-year at the end of the curtailed 2019/20 campaign.

Clubs in the lower leagues have until October 16 to make signings and can sign players from Premier League sides, but top-flight sides can’t bring anyone else in after today.

Former Dover and Welling player Nortei Nortey has agreed a move north of the border. The former Chelsea youth player has signed for Queen of the South.

Elsewhere, former Gills keeper Paulo Gazzaniga has been linked with a move from Tottenham to Everton and Liverpool. The Argentine stopper’s first taste of English football was at Gillingham, playing 20 league games before being sold to Southampton.

Chris Smalling, meanwhile, could be heading to Italian side Roma. The former Maidstone United defender has been linked with a £12.5m move from his current team Manchester United. He was on loan at the Serie A side last season.
