Steer set to face former team-mate

Rene Steer is enjoying his loan spell at Gillingham

Gillingham's on-loan defender Rene Steer will be lining up against a familiar face tomorrow (Saturday).

The on-loan Arsenal left-back will line up against a former team-mate from the Gunners academy – Bournemouth’s Ryan Garry.

Left-back Garry moved from Arsenal last season but Steer is still on the books at the north London club and is starting his second month of a loan spell at Priestfield.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed his time at Gillingham so far. He made his first league appearance as a late substitute against Bradford and his first start came in the 4-4 draw against Aldershot last week.

"I like it down here and I’m enjoying the first team experience," said Steer.

"It’s something that at Arsenal I’m not really going to get right now and it’s much more enjoyable than playing for the reserves.

"I was buzzing about making my debut, it’s something I had looked forward to since I was little."
