Peter Taylor was pleased with the way his side claimed their cup win at Yeovil.

The Gills boss is keen to see his side pass the ball more this season and he saw that in the 2-1 Capital Cup victory at Huish Park.

He said: “There were positives and some good football played at times, when the players were calm enough to play it.

“We got a fortunate (first) goal because of a mistake from Yeovil but I thought we played some decent football.”

The Gills went into the game looking to bounce back from a 4-2 defeat against MK Dons on Saturday.

“Both teams also got beaten on Saturday and both were desperate to get something,” said Taylor.

“I thought our shape was decent and that when we played it simple, we did it well, then like Saturday there were good stages and bad stages.”

Brennan Dickenson scored Gills’ opener after a mix-up in the Yeovil defence.

Taylor said: “He likes playing up there and he is very quick. I don’t think we saw how quick he is but he is very quick and he does get a goal.

“I know that one was a lucky one but you have to be there to take it.”

Yeovil levelled but Aaron Morris won the game with a 25-yard strike.

“It was a great strike and their goalkeeper never stood a chance,” said the Gills manager.

“That’s not why Aaron has come to us, he has come more as a holding midfield player that stops things so that was a nice surprise. It is obvious that if he is capable of doing that so hopefully he can get a few more.”
