Gillingham face their fifth game in 15 days on Saturday when they travel to Barnsley.

It’s a schedule that Gills boss Peter Taylor has labelled "crazy."

His side have faced a relentless first few weeks and there is little time for a breather with Capital One Cup and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy matches around the corner.

Taylor’s men will have had five midweek games in the opening six weeks of the season. In November, December and January, they have none - and Taylor isn’t impressed with the schedule.

He said: "I don’t agree with this. You don’t play for three months (during the summer break) and then all of a sudden you have to play three times a week.

"It’s crazy. I don’t think that’s right."

Gillingham’s hectic schedule sees them face Newcastle on Tuesday, a home game against Crewe on the Saturday and a midweek trip to Stevenage in the JPT.

They face Peterborough at home on Tuesday, September 16, and should they progress in the Capital One Cup, the third round would take place the following Tuesday (September 23).

Taylor is attempting to juggle that busy schedule with a crippling injury list that includes Cody McDonald, Doug Loft, Aaron Morris, Joe Martin and Stuart Nelson.
