Chatham boss Kevin Watson has dismissed the idea his team are in for an easy ride.

The Ryman League, Division 1 North side host mid-table Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday.

Watson said: “They’ve picked up and have got a relatively new manager.

“There are people in the team who are looking to prove their worth for next season.

“They are too far adrift of a play-off place and have enough points to be safe but I don’t think they will be coasting.”

Chats lost 3-1 at Romford last Saturday, a team just below them in the table.

“It was a disappointing result for all sorts of reasons,” Watson said.

“It was a big game. It was as big as a cup semi-final or a play-off game but we just didn’t have enough quality for once. There were not enough players performing anywhere near how they should.”
